The Winter Term

With each week coming to an end quicker than ever you start to realise that the winter season is right on top of us. Freezing cold days, waking up in the dark and going home in the dark, and especially the dreaded wet weather it brings.  We all know how hard it is to get through the winter period so why don’t we make this the year we get prepared for it to make the winter term be as fluid as possible?

The most important and hardest thing to keep up in the winter term is keeping school attendance high for both students and staff. This is the hardest task as the shorter and darker days and cold weather can give people less motivation and energy along with illnesses. For both students and staff it can already be difficult to find the motivation and energy to get out of bed and travel down for a full days work therefore with the shorter and darker days this can make it even harder, this can affect things such as attendance as they will look for an excuse to not go in whether it is a small illness they have caught or are scared to catch.

Schools, and most importantly classrooms, are unfortunately the perfect environment for germs and harmful microbes as they are full of students and staff throughout the course of a day. Coughs, sneezes, and sniffles can easily transfer these germs onto desks, chairs, and other furniture throughout the school which you will have hundreds of people walk by and touch each day. This happens all year round however the winter season can help make this a lot worse as it makes it much easier for people to catch these illnesses but also get rid of them. As it is the winter season it is a lot colder, therefore, the school will usually have all outdoor doors closed as well as the heating on throughout the school which can help germs circulate around and pass through the school all day, every day. This significantly increases the chances of a student or staff member catching an illness from it. If this happens and a staff/student catches an illness it is much harder to get rid of the illness and recover from it in winter as the body is not as effective at fighting a virus when cold air enters the nose and upper airways.

To avoid any interruptions through the winter season we highly recommend staying on top of AND doubling down on making sure that every area of the school is clean to minimise any possibility of germs being spread through the school. However, if you want to reduce any risk even further, we highly recommend hiring professionals to do it for you, using their professional equipment they will be able to reduce the risk even further creating a much better school environment and setting the school up for a successful winter period.
